Painkillers may reduce risk of breast cancer return in obese women

A recent study conducted at the University of Texas in Austin indicates that women with a body mass index (BMI) greater than 30 may have their chances of a breast cancer recurrence cut in half if they take painkillers (aspirin or other nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs - NSAIDs) on a regular basis. According to study author Linda deGraffenried, the anti-inflammatory properties of pain killers reduce inflammation induced by obesity: "reducing the inflammation with aspirin and other NSAIDs...may improve how well hormone therapies work."
