Moving beyond grey literature: How to set up an RSS feed for your current awareness (via EBSCO)

RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary.

An RSS feed notifies you when updates have been made to an information source, in this case when a new issue for a selected journal title is available. The advantage of managing RSS feeds is that you only need to go to one place to access all the new information.

You would need to sign up for an account to a feed reader to access your feeds. Due to the demise of Google Reader, Bloglines is recommended as an alternative To register for a free account in Bloglines, please sign up here.

Once you have access to a feed reader, you may subscribe to journal RSS feeds through the EBSCO database. To find/subscribe to the RSS feed for journals in EBSCO databases:

1. In an EBSCO database, click on the Publications link in the top toolbar.

2. Search or browse to find the journal title that interests you.

3. Click on the Alert/Save/Share link at the top right corner and choose RSS Feed

4. An RSS feed always has an orange icon near it. Highlight and copy the RSS Feed URL at the bottom of the window. (It starts with http://rss.ebscohost.com...)

5. Open your Bloglines account, click on the ADD button on the top left menu bar, and paste the feed URL in the Feeds box. The feed has now been added to your Bloglines account. You may continue adding more journal feeds.
