Potential role of an activated tumour immune microenvironment in predicting benefit from atezolizumab for triple-negative breast cancer

 Findings from a multicentre, multinational, double-blind, placebo-controlled phase III trial on the "addition of atezolizumab to a standard taxane-carboplatin-anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy regimen" for patients with stage III triple-negative breast cancer was recently published in Nature Medicine.  According to trial results, atezolizumab significantly improved progression-free survival "when added to nab-paclitaxel for first-line treatment of metastatic, PD-L1-positive triple-negative breast cancer.  Further, progression-free survival also improved early-stage triple-negative breast cancer "with a trend for improved long-term outcomes when added to taxane-anthracycline-based neoadjuvant chemotherapy."
